He was a back-up quarterback in high school and went to a private college. ![]() Control inherited his father's cat, El Chorizo, when he died. During his youth, he lived primarily with his father, who died of cancer three years before Control became the director of the Southern Reach. Ĭontrol's parents divorced when he was around 12 years old. He spent most of his time reading or fishing with Jack. Ĭontrol spent his summers at a lake cottage with Jack and Jackie. Control is unsure if the nickname was bestowed upon him out of love or condescension. Jack gave him the nickname "Control" when he was eight or nine years old. While the rest of the the Rodriguez family were mostly carpenters and mechanics, Control's father became an artist. His paternal grandmother worked in a bakery. Control's paternal grandfather sold clothespins door-to-door before later working as a boxer, a construction worker, and a driving instructor. ![]() On his father's side, the Rodriguez family is of Central American, Hispanic, and Indian ancestry. Not much is known about the Severance side of Control's family other than what is revealed about Jack and Jackie in Authority. He comes off as impassive to everyone, including family and girlfriends. He is described by Ghost Bird as having "prominent cheekbones, large eyes, an unobtrusive nose, and light brown skin." He follows a healthy diet and regularly goes running. ![]()
